Anmerkungen der Regisseurin zu «Stand Up My Beauty»

NARDOS ist eine junge Sängerin aus Addis Abeba, die sich in Reibung mit Alltagsproblemen und strenger Tradition als Künstlerin verwirklichen möchte. Wie in meinen bisherigen Filmen wird ein Gedanke aus dem vorangegangenen Werk zum Ausgangspunkt der neuen Filmreise. Aus „cahier africain“ habe ich innere Freiheit getragen, mit der sich die Hauptprotagonistin zum Schluss des Films offenbart: Trotz Krieg und Trauma hat sie sich eine eigene Vision ihrer Zukunft bewahrt. Diesen Stab nimmt NARDOS auf. Die Entstehung ihres ersten eigenen Liedes erzählen wir mit den Stilmitteln eines dokumentarischen Musicals. 

NARDOS is a young singer from Addis Ababa who wants to fulfill herself as an artist, undeterred by everyday problems and strict tradition. As in my previous work, an idea from my prior film became the point of departure for this new film journey. From "Cahier Africain", I took the inner freedom with which the protagonist realizes herself at the end of the film: In spite of war and trauma, she remained true to her own vision for her future. NARDOS picks up that baton. We tell the story of the conception of her first own, original song, through the stylistic means of a documentary musical.
